Unveiled in late 1996, the chic two-seater Boxster was the first road-going Porsche since the 550 Spyder to be designed from scratch as a roadster.

Penned under the direction of Dutch designer Harm Lagaay, its styling recalled Porsche’s earlier sports cars while introducing a fresh identity for the marque.

The Boxster name combined ‘boxer’ and ‘roadster’, reflecting its open-top configuration and mid-mounted, water-cooled flat-six engine.
