Produced for 41 years, more than five million examples were built, but the most coveted were the Cooper models developed by racing driver and constructor John Cooper.

Recognising the Mini’s exceptional handling, Cooper persuaded BMC to produce a more powerful version using a 997cc twin-carburettor engine developing 55bhp.

The Mini Cooper was launched in 1961, followed by the more powerful Cooper S in 1963.

Although the Cooper name disappeared in 1971, John Cooper Garages continued producing upgraded Minis throughout the 1980s before the Cooper returned as a factory model under Rover ownership in September 1990....
