The 1927 Studebaker Erskine Model 50 emerged as the company sought to expand beyond its increasingly upscale lineup.

Under the direction of company president Albert Russel Erskine, the Erskine marque was introduced as a smaller, more affordable companion to Studebaker’s larger six-cylinder cars.

Inspired by compact European automobiles and aimed at both domestic and international markets, the Erskine debuted in 1927 and was marketed as “The Little Aristocrat.”
The Model 50, the first offering in the series, rode on a relatively short 108-inch wheelbase and was designed to deliver the maneuverability of a small car while retaining the refinement expected of the Studebaker name.
