Having rescued TVR in late 1965, Arthur Lilley and his son Martin spent the rest of the decade restructuring the company and developing its existing model range.
Thus, it was not until the 1970s that the younger Lilley, by then Managing Director, was able to really make his mark via the M-Series of cars.
Strong enough to impress during MIRA crash testing and notably more rigid than its predecessor, the backbone chassis which underpinned the newcomers was the work of former race engineer turned marque concessionaire, Mike Bigland.
Equipped with all-round independent, double wishbone suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc / drum brakes, the structure played host to 1.6 litre inline four, 2.5 litre straight-six and 3 litre V6 engines.
Credited with developing some 142bhp/172lbft, the latter was installed aboard the 3000M that debuted at the October 1972 Earl’s Court Motor Show.
