Variously sold as Nissans and Datsuns and offered as a saloon or a hatchback, the Stanza was introduced in 1977 as a more upmarket and ‘European’ sister to the A10 Violet.

A major change occurred with the arrival of the T11 series of 1981, when the Stanza moved to a front-wheel drive platform—the first mid-range Datsun to do so.

It was sold chiefly with 1.6- or 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines, and in L, GL and SGL trim levels.

From 1982, the Datsun name was phased out in favour of Nissan, and for 1987 the Stanza was replaced by the Nissan Bluebird.

Never mind exotic supercars—if you desire something truly exclusive and almost unobtainable, you’d do just as well with a Nissan Stanza.

As of 2026, it is estimated that just twenty-five Stanzas still exist in Britain, with only five licensed for the road.

This 1.6 GL is one of them, and remarkably it has been in the same family from new, with all three keepers resident at the same address in Baildon Shipley, near Bradford.
