Intended as a spiritual successor to pre-war sports cars such as the MG M-type and Austin Seven Nippy, the original Austin-Healey Sprite, launched in May 1958, arose from the partnership between Donald Healey and Austin's Leonard Lord.
Three decades on from its inception, a gentleman named Keith Brading and his team at the Frogeye Car Company set about recapturing the spirit of 1950's open top motoring but with more modern engineering and reliability tweaks.
Under the guidance of Geoffrey Healey himself, these MG Midget based sports cars boasted a more powerful 1275cc engine and were constructed with GRP body panels helping keep weight down and make rust a thing of the past.
It is understood c.250 of these later Frogeye's were built.
Retaining the identity of its 1969 MG Midget MKIII 1275cc donor car but featuring a galvanised steel chassis and fibreglass bodywork, this ‘Frogeye’ benefits from Mazda MX-5 sourced 5-speed transmission and has been modified to run on E10 fuel.
