The Mercedes-Benz W124 range was produced from 1985 to 1997 and reaffirmed Mercedes-Benz’s reputation for engineering excellence.

The range encompassed various models and body styles, all of which ranked among the foremost offerings in the medium-sized executive car class.

The models were built with a multitude of advanced features, such as the eccentric windscreen wiper which cleared almost the entire screen, and they were extremely aerodynamic, with some variations having a drag coefficient as low as 0.28 Cd.

The 124s were also notable as the first Mercedes with the famous “manhole cover” alloy wheels.

All were built with multi-link rear suspension, but self-levelling suspension was optional.

During the 1980s, Mercedes planned to use DOHC engines across its entire range, and this technology reached the 124s in 1992.
