The Maestro was introduced in November 1982 as Austin's newest competitor to the established Volkswagen Golf and Ford Escort.
A small family car which was produced at the Cowley plant in Oxford.
Two body styles were available, a five-door hatchback and a two-door van.
It was introduced by British Leyland under the Austin marque, with the Rover Group selling it simply as the Maestro starting from 1988.
The Maestro replaced the aging Austin Maxi and Austin Allegro, with the van version replacing the van derivative of the Morris Ital.
With 605,000 units sold in total, they are now a rare sight on today's roads.
