It was the Riley Nine of 1926 that really put Riley on the map.

With its 1,100cc twin-camshaft engine, it soon found success in competition, further boosting the order book.

New for 1935 was the 12/4 engine.

Though it bore many resemblances to existing Riley units, it was an all new design of 1½ litres and could be specified in the Falcon, Merlin, Kestrel, Lynx and new Adelphi models.

With a power output of 51bhp, one could expect to reach 50mph in some 17 seconds and achieve a top speed of around 67mph.

For 1936, the 12/4 was renamed the 1½ Litre and this most tuneable power unit would remain in production right up until 1955 with the demise of the RME model.

The 1½ Litre Falcon represents one of the rarer Riley variants of the 1930s, with just 1,200 built and only a handful still on the roads.

Nevertheless, their capable engines and spacious, well-appointed bodies make them an ideal model for enthusiasts who intend to use their Riley regularly, and enjoy it with their family.
