Subjected to an extensive mechanical restoration during the 1990s and 2000s

Introduced at the March 1957 Geneva Salon, the 300SL Roadster utilised a modified version of the tubular spaceframe chassis that underpinned its ‘Gullwing’ sibling (and which in turn had been derived from that of Mercedes-Benz’s W194 sports racer).

A mere 35kg heavier despite the provision of conventional doors and additional bracing to compensate for the loss of a fixed roof, the structure was equipped with all-round independent suspension and four-wheel drum brakes.
