AI Listing Summary

This 1951 Lanchester LD10 Barker Saloon, part of the David Lucas Collection, presents a rare opportunity to own a coach-built classic. Sold without reserve, it requires recommissioning and renovation, offering a project for enthusiasts. Its history with the Daimler Lanchester Owners’ Club and unique features like Regency seat covers add to its appeal, balanced by the need for mechanical and cosmetic attention.

Condition

6

The car is described as being in need of recommissioning/renovation prior to use, suggesting it has been dormant for years. While seemingly complete, this indicates it requires a good deal of work to bring it back to running condition. The unwarranted mileage and auxiliary gauges further indicate some level of wear and tear or modification. Therefore, it is unlikely to be in better than 'Good' condition.

Introduced in 1946, the Lanchester LD10 was more considerably expensive than its 10hp opposition.

Marketed as ‘craftsman built’, the newcomer was powered by a smooth 1287cc OHV four-cylinder engine allied to four-speed pre-selector transmission complete with a fluid flywheel.

Equipped with independent front suspension, a ‘live’ rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes, the four-seater was reputedly capable of 69mph.

Initially fitted with steel Six-Light coachwork by Briggs, later variants wore aluminium Four-Light bodies courtesy of Barker & Co.

Just 579 of the 3,030 LD10s made sported the more rakish Barker design.

First registered in Lancashire (or so its ‘MTE 926’ number plate would imply), chassis L63509 has been part of the late Mr Lucas’s collection since at least the late 1970s when the DVLA computerised their records.

A regular attendee at Daimler Lanchester Owners’ Club events earlier that same decade, the LD10 displays an unwarranted 22,338 miles to its odometer.
