AI Listing Summary
This 1957 Austin A55 Cambridge Saloon, part of the David Lucas Collection since 1993, sold for £1,650. It features a White over Grey exterior, original Red leather upholstery, and shows 28,954 unwarranted miles. The car needs recommissioning/renovation after being off the road for decades, presenting a restoration project opportunity.

Condition
4
The car is described as 'in need of recommissioning / renovation' and has been off the road for decades. While it retains its original interior and appears period perfect in White over Grey, it requires work to be roadworthy again. The unwarranted mileage and need for recommissioning suggest a condition that is below average but not poor, as it seems structurally sound and retains original features.

Introduced in January 1957, the Austin A55 Cambridge boasted a larger boot and airier cabin than its A50 predecessor (the latter courtesy of a much bigger rear window).
Based around a monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent front suspension, a ‘live’ rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes, the newcomer weighed little more than a ton.
Powered by a 1.5 litre B-Series OHV engine allied to four-speed manual transmission, the four/five-seater was reputedly capable of some 80mph.
Available in four-door saloon or two-door commercial guises and with the option of two-tone paint schemes, the original A55 was supplanted by a Pininfarina-styled successor in 1959.
First registered in Exeter on September 1st 1957 (or so its ‘VFJ 63’ number plate would imply), chassis HS6.HCS.45426 belonged to Jamie Clark of Scarborough some twentyfive years later.
Joining the late Mr Lucas’s collection in 1993, the Austin pleasingly retains its original Red leather upholstery.
