Of the main French automotive manufacturers, Talbot-Lago was perhaps the most innovative and sporting, with the T26 a perfect encapsulation of the company’s capabilities.

Talbot-Lago could follow the “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” philosophy of many that competed, and offered a range of production cars.

Debuting in 1946, and a direct successor to the T150C of the 1930s, the T26 featured a dual hemispherical cylinder head six-cylinder engine with 190 bhp – and for smooth driving, a preselector transmission.

This same engine, when fitted to single-seater and sports-racing cars from 1948, provided the company with many victories on the circuits around Europe, including the 1949 Belgian and French Grands Prix and a successful campaign at Le Mans in 1950, culminating in a win.
