Introduced in 1955, the Porsche 356 A 1500 GS Carrera represented one of the ultimate expressions of the 356 line.
Beneath its familiar Reutter bodywork lay an advanced powertrain: a double overhead camshaft type 547 engine, derived from Porsche’s highly successful racing program made famous by the 550 Spyder.
Producing approximately 100 hp with a redline of 6,200 rpm, the 356 Carrera was the most technically sophisticated and fastest road-going Porsche of its era.
Capable of exceeding 125 mph, the car could compete with contemporary high-performance models from manufacturers such as Ferrari and Maserati on remarkably equal footing, while being much more agile.
