The Porsche 914 was launched in 1969 as a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen, created to replace both the Porsche 912 and the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.

Conceived as a lightweight, mid-engined sports car, it offered something quite different from Porsche s rear-engined 911, placing the engine ahead of the rear axle for excellent balance and handling.

Its compact proportions, removable targa roof and low centre of gravity gave the 914 a distinct character within the Porsche range.
