Founded in 1957 in Slough, Berkshire, the company was the brainchild of James “Jimmy” Byrnes, a club racer and restaurateur; Bernie Rodger, an engine builder; and John Gordon, a Rolls‑Royce vendor and racer.

Initially called the Warwick, the car was soon rebranded as the Peerless GT, a name chosen as a nod to the long-defunct American Peerless brand, whose factory once occupied the same site.
