Established in Staines in 1906, Lagonda was named after a creek in Ohio that was near to the birthplace of the company’s American founder, Wilbur Gunn.

After modest successes at low volume motorcycle manufacture and racing, he turned his attention to motor cars and launched the 1907 Torpedo 20hp.

1913 saw the arrival of the smaller 11.1hp model; the following year, it was updated with a monocoque body and, as a world first, a fly-off handbrake.

From those humble beginnings, the Lagonda marque evolved into one of Britain’s foremost luxury motor car manufacturers, producing a long line of superbly built, elegant sporting models until its merger with Aston Martin in 1947.

Produced from 1918 until 1923, the 11.9hp Lagonda had the same chassis and coachwork as the earlier 11.1hp model, but it was equipped with the more powerful 1420cc engine unit.

Four thousand and twenty five models were produced in total, and today, it is believed that just a few remain.
