Introduced in 2000, the P1 was commissioned by Subaru UK and developed in conjunction with Prodrive, the Oxfordshire engineering firm responsible for Subaru's World Rally Championship programme.

Created in response to the growing number of Japanese-market WRX STi grey imports arriving in Britain, it was based upon the formidable two-door WRX STi Type R and became the first official UK-market two-door Impreza.

Only 1,000 examples were produced, all finished in distinctive Sonic Blue Mica, with the P1 receiving bespoke styling by Peter Stevens, the designer of the McLaren F1.

Yet the changes went considerably deeper than appearance.

Prodrive engineers reinforced the two-door bodyshell to meet European requirements and developed an entirely revised chassis specifically for British roads, testing more than 22 combinations...
