Introduced in 1954 as the successor to the sensational XK120, the XK140 retained the essential character of its predecessor while bringing greater refinement, improved practicality and a number of worthwhile mechanical developments.
The 3.4-litre XK twin-cam straight-six now produced 190bhp as standard, while the engine was moved three inches forward to provide additional cabin space.
Rack-and-pinion steering replaced the XK120's recirculating-ball arrangement and telescopic dampers were adopted in place of the earlier lever-arm units, making the XK140 a more accomplished and usable sports car.
The Fixed Head Coupe was one of three body styles offered, alongside the Open Two Seater and Drophead Coupe.
