The SL for the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz’ R129 of 1989 has an enduring image as a landmark model for the Stuttgart firm.

With precision engineering, timeless design, and innovative features, the R129 SL has become a sought-after classic among collectors and enthusiasts. 

This peak model in terms of "over-engineering", Bruno Sacco’s design brought in innovations such as an electronic automatic roll bar, electrically controlled damping, and integral seats.

The design, based on a shortened floorpan of the W124 saloon, was finalised in 1984 but launched some 5 years later at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show.

The model was facelifted in 1998, with redesigned bumpers, new tail-lamps, larger 17-inch wheels as standard, and a new generation of M112 V6 and M113 V8 engines.

The interior also received chrome-ringed dials, softer leather, and a sport package.
