AI Listing Summary

This is a race-prepared BMW 1800 Ti, upgraded to Ti SA specification, with a strong racing history in Germany and the UK. It features a Laranca Engineering-built 1800 race engine, Getrag 5-speed gearbox, and upgraded brakes and suspension, making it eligible for historic race championships like Goodwood Revival.

While the listing indicates the car has been well-maintained and race-prepared, it also mentions that the car is not a genuine factory-built Ti SA model, but rather an upgraded standard 1800 Ti. Given the full race preparation and regular racing use, along with the upgrade, this suggests the car has been subject to wear and tear, although maintained to a high standard.

BMW’s successor to the 1500 saloon was the 1800, launched in September of 1963, with a 1,773cc, 90bhp engine.

One interesting variation of the 1800 was the 1800ti which continued the manufacturer’s trend towards sporting motoring by delivering 110bhp, courtesy of twin sidedraught Solex carburettors and an increased compression ratio of 9.5:1, while the chassis featured stiffer suspension.

With the BMW 1800ti race drivers clinched numerous victories, including Hubert Hahne winning the German Circuit Championship in 1964.

A mere 200 genuine factory-built Ti SA models were produced, most of which now reside in museums or private collections.

Coys are delighted to present this very rare BMW, which comes with an interesting and detailed history.

Originally a standard 1800 Ti, the car underwent a major upgrade to Ti SA specification over 10 years ago.

The BMW was raced in Germany under the ownership of the Ardelt Family before it moved to the UK where it has lived ever since.
