AI Listing Summary

This is a 1919 Austin 20, believed to be a New Zealand diplomat's car, imported to the UK in 1989. It features its original, unrestored blue and black Austin body and a 3600cc 4-cylinder engine rebuilt in 2008, with less than 500 miles since. Condition

6

The car is described as having an unrestored and original body, suggesting some wear consistent with its age. The engine rebuild in 2008 indicates mechanical attention, but the limited mileage since then doesn't fully negate the age factor. The car's long-term ownership and readiness for use suggest it's in a condition where it can be enjoyed without immediate extensive work, but the originality implies it's not in a pristine or fully restored state.

During The Great War, Austin manufactured munitions and expanded greatly as a result, employing more than 22,000 workers by the cessation of hostilities in 1918.

When civilian production recommenced it was with a single 20hp model, influenced by the six-cylinder Hudson – one of America’s most advanced designs – that Herbert Austin has us...
