This Mercedes Ponton is indeed a very rare find.

Being a break (or KOMBI in German), it is one of only eleven such cars built; this one is by Coachbuilder Pollmann of Bremen, who still exist today.

Pollmann Coachbuilders received a long wheelbase chassis from the Mercedes works in 1955, which boasted the well proven 6-cylinder engine, providing 2,195cc and 84 HP, giving a sensational top speed of 160 km/h.

The car has had only two owners in sixty years.

The car was registered to its first owner in Hamburg on 5th April 1955, who kept it until 11th March 1966, when it was sold to the second owner who used it until 1st July 1976, at which time it was put into long time storage until its recent discovery.

Moreover, this very car is shown in the Mercedes book, Das große Ponton Buch, on a double-page spread (pp.

76-77) showing its first number plate of HH-CZ 3 –exactly the same as in its log book of 1955.  Die Ponton Baureihe wurde gesamt von 1953 bis 1962, neun Jahre produziert.
