During the evolution of the 290, the Mercedes-Benz 320 was intended to help bridge the gap between Mercedes-Benz’s large- and medium-sized vehicles.

The platform was very versatile, and it was offered with either a long- or short-wheelbase chassis.

This allowed the 320 to be sold in a variety of different body styles, including a saloon, cabriolet, roadster, and an open touring car, all of which provided its passengers with the levels both of performance and comfort that customers had come to expect of Mercedes-Benz.

The Mercedes-Benz 320 series was introduced in 1937 and would become available in a wide range of body styles including a 4-door sedan, 6-seat touring car and three different cabriolets.

Powered by a 78-horsepower 3.2-liter side-valve straight-six, the 320 featured all-independent suspension and hydraulic brakes front and rear.
