Building on the Mark I, the modern saloon introduced in 1955 as the 2.4-liter and Jaguar's first monocoque model, the Mark II retained its predecessor's elegant design by William Lyons and its inline six-cylinder double overhead camshaft engine.

While remaining steadfast to the classic Jaguar formula, it also introduced a number of significant improvements, including modern four-wheel disc brakes, generous glass areas framed by slim chrome pillars, and a wider rear track for improved handling and road holding.



Offered with 2.4- and 3.4-liter engines, the Mark II was also available with the more powerful 3.8-liter unit, which was successfully campaigned in circuit racing and international rallying, building an impressive record of victories, including the Tour de France Automobile from 1960 through 1963.
