The first Maserati to bear the name of a wind, the Mistral inaugurated a tradition that would continue for several decades.

Its name, derived from the Latin word for "master," refers to the Mistral wind that sweeps through Provence and along the French Riviera, a wind renowned for its strength, capable of clearing the skies and bringing dry, sunny weather.



Designed by engineer Giulio Alfieri and stylist Pietro Frua to rival the Jaguar E-Type, the Mistral is the final Maserati with the six-cylinder engine from the brand's Formula One units, fitted with Lucas fuel injection, a key innovation of the model.

Initially offered in 3.5-liter and later 3.7-liter, the evolution reached its zenith at 4.0 liters.



This top-of-the-line 4.0-litre engine was fitted from new to Maserati Mistral chassis number 1633, as confirmed by Maserati Classiche.
