The reintroduction of the Maybach nameplate in 2002 was announced with theatrical grandeur.

Transported across the Atlantic aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, encased in glass on the first-class sun deck, the new Maybach arrived in New York before descending delicately by helicopter-an entrance befitting the brand's lofty ambitions.

Upon debut, Maybach not only elevated contemporary standards of luxury but also reasserted the legacy of its legendary motorcars of the 1920s and '30s.

The Maybach 62, named for its imposing 6.2-meter length, was described as "a world of superlatives," featuring up to 210 individual leather components, over 100 hand-fitted trim pieces, and a bespoke twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V12 producing 543 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.



An exceptionally costly car throughout its years on offer, the base cost for a 62 had grown to $411,750 by 2009.
