Mercedes-Benz redefined the high-performance sedan in 1968 with the debut of the 300 SEL 6.3.

Conceived in secret by engineer Erich Waxenberger, the project merged the refinement of the 300 SEL luxury grand tourer with the formidable 6.3-liter V8 and transmission from the flagship 600 "Grosser." The outcome was a discreetly styled sedan that belied its extraordinary speed and capability as the fastest sedan in the world, and was famously quicker than a comparable 911 S!
