This 1967 BMW 1600 GT coupe is said to have been constructed by Pietro Frua for his own personal use using a body styled by his company and parts acquired from BMW.
He finished the car in his own shade of “Frua Green” and reportedly added approximately 8k kilometers (~5k miles) in Italy in the car, which was not assigned a serial number, on his temporary plates.
After Frua’s passing in 1983, the car was sold by his widow to a German collector, who had a BMW chassis plate affixed to the car that wears the number W001001, a number which was present on an existing 1600 GT.
The car changed hands again in 2004 at the Techno Classica exhibition, where it was again sold in 2023.
The car was then purchased by the seller in 2024 and imported to the US.
