This Ford Model T is a steel-bodied roadster that was built into a land speed racer in the late 1940s by Jim “Jazzy” Nelson and his brother Paul.
Jim piloted it to a Class B record of 141.06 mph at El Mirage in 1949, and the car was awarded first in its class at that year’s inaugural Oakland Roadster Show.
In 1950, the “Jazzy Special” was purchased by Lee Titus, founder of Lee’s Speed Shop in Santa Monica, who replaced the engine and achieved a top speed of 151 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats the following year.
