Chassis 1101 is said to have been ordered new by the current owner in January 1979 and picked up in Germany before being air-freighted to the US and federalized by California-based Dietel Enterprises in 1981.

The Giorgetto Giugiaro–styled fiberglass bodywork was subsequently repainted in its current pearlescent white finish at the owner’s former BMW dealership, where the car was periodically displayed over the ensuing years.
