This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette is one of three L88-equipped convertibles ordered new via Fred Gledhill Chevrolet through the General Motors Central Office Production Order channel by James Garner’s American International Racing team.

The car and its two counterparts are said to have been picked up at Gene Jantzen Chevrolet in St.

Louis, Missouri, by Dick Guldstrand and two other team members, who subsequently drove the cars back to Culver City, California, for racing preparation at Guldstrand’s shop.

After engine modifications by Travers & Coons, the trio was sent to the 24 Hours of Daytona, where this car shared the front row of its class with one of its AIR teammates en route to finishing 29 with differential trouble while piloted by Dick G...
