Condition

7

The car presents well with a recent mechanical refurbishment and some updates. However, corrosion in the wheel wells, pitting in the chrome, and paint imperfections suggest it is not in pristine condition. The replaced soft top, seat upholstery, and steering wheel indicate some restoration work, moving it away from being in original factory condition. While it's a solid, well-maintained vehicle, it shows some signs of wear and cosmetic issues that require minor reconditioning.

This 1949 Oldsmobile Futuramic 98 convertible was owned throughout the 1950s by Katherine “Kay” Field—the wife of Chicago, Illinois–based Marshall Field IV, newspaper owner and descendant of the eponymous department-store founder—and remained in the state until 2019, spending 44 years in the collection of James Petrozzini.

The car underwent a mechanical refurbishment in 2020 before it was purchased by the current owner, who subsequently installed a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, a vacuum brake booster, brake lines, tires, front seatback upholstery, steering wheel, hydraulic accessory pump, and black soft top and commissioned a rebuild of the power-top mechanism.
