This McLaren M1 is believed to have been sold new as an M1A in 1965 either to Mexican jai alai star and racing driver Moisés Solana or to fellow Mexican racer Ruben Novoa.
In 1971 it was sold to an owner in California as a rolling chassis without a powertrain or rear body panels and remained in an incomplete state when acquired by its next owner in 1981.
In 1985 it was sold by Lola specialist Mac McClendon to an owner who commissioned marque specialist John Collins to complete a refurbishment with upgrades to the chassis and the installation of M1B-style bodywork.
The car then participated in several SCCA and CVAR races in the Texas region before being purchased in 1995 by its previous owner, who continued to campaign it in vintage racing until his retirement in 2010.
