Description Only 67k miles indicated; just two owners from 1996 - 2024; new tyres, front shocks and full service; very clean and tidy; driven 50 miles to the sale Introduced in 1986, the XJ40 was a major improvement on the previous Series 3 XJ6 Saloon with better build quality and a considerably stiffer structure which won it the accolade of being the ‘Safest Car in Britain’.
It also got the new AJ6 engine to replace the old XK unit, offering better performance and fuel economy with lower emissions.
The 4-litre version of the AJ6, as fitted to this car, has fuel injection and catalyst and produces 235bhp with silky smoothness and commendable fuel economy.
Reliable and well built, the XJ40 was available as a basic XJ6 with round headlights, or the more luxurious Sovereign, as offered here.
