AI Listing Summary

This 1939 Alvis 12/70 SC is a rare Mulliner saloon, one of only 551 made. It features an older restoration with minor paint blemishes, hasn't been started recently, and is missing its documents, reflected in the modest guide price.

Condition

The car is described as having an older restoration that looks wonderful with just a couple of minor paintwork blemishes. It has been stored as part of a deceased estate. The last MOT test in 2017 showed some minor points that needed attention. The car is not currently running, but the engine turns easily. Given the super cosmetic condition offset with it needing some mechanical reconditioning and lacking documents, I would rate it as 'Good'.

A much-needed increase in engine capacity to 1,842cc increased output to 63.5bhp in the subsequent Firebird model which kept performance up to scratch, despite ever heavier coachwork taking its toll on the traditional sprightly Alvis performance.

By September 1937, George Lanchester had significantly reworked the whole car, the resultant 12/70 model becoming the last Alvis made before war stopped car production.

A major styling change came in late 1938 when...
