The engine was fully rebuilt by Fourtrack Engineering of Llanrwst in 1987 at 78,599 miles and it has only covered 16,800 miles since.

The rebuild incorporated some choice upgrades including bored out to 1,660cc; Vandervell high strength bearings; reground crank; Piper HR270 camshaft, cam followers and valve springs; gas-flowed head to Escort Mexico spec.

The cylinder head was subsequently converted to run on unleaded fuel in 1999.
