Description Rare model only made for 18 months; one of only around 50 known to survive; good running order Launched in 1938, the Morris 12/4 Series III was a big improvement on the Series II largely due to its 41bhp 1,548cc engine which was now overhead-valve rather than side-valve and had a cross-flow cylinder head (the same engine was also used in the MG VA and the Wolseley 12/48).
The 4-speed gearbox also gained better synchromesh and electrics were uprated to 12v.
Contemporary road tests singled out the hydraulic brakes and the light, direct steering for particular praise, recording a top speed of 70mph.
Due to the outbreak of war in 1939, the Series III was only made in very limited numbers and according to the Series III Register, only 53 are known to survive today.
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this Morris 12/4 was built in March 1938.
