Several English coachbuilders were on hand to produce special Terraplane models built upon the imported chassis and powered by Hudson’s muscular ‘Power Dome’ engine – most notably Railton, who inevitably saw the speed-record-breaking potential of these cars.

As far as we’re aware, however, this is the only Salmons & Sons-bodied Hudson Terraplane ever built.

But that’s far from being its only claim to fame.

Budding art historians among you will be familiar with the work of Rex Whistler, a man whose career would have changed the face of art had he lived longer – according to the late Brian Sewell (an art critic who also happened to be something of a petrol-head).

There is a Rex Whistler painting showing what we believe to be this very car (the coachwork is, of course, unique and therefore highly recognisable).

Likewise, afficionados of First World War poetry will, of course, be well versed in the works of Siegfried Sassoon.
