The final ‘real’ Alfa Romeo sold prior to their acquisition by Fiat, the 75 Saloon offered near-perfect weight distribution thanks to its transaxle transmission with integrated differential, an unusual inboard rear brake setup, and a then-advanced onboard diagnostic and monitoring system, known as ‘Alfa Romeo Control’ which was mounted to the dashboard.

Offered with a range of engines from a 1.6-litre inline-four petrol engine up to a 3.0-litre V6, 12-valve petrol and even a 2.4-litre inline-four turbodiesel, the Alfa 75 was able to fulfil almost all duties from an everyday family sedan to an all-out motoring epiphany, depending on the engine, model and trim level selected.

Introduced in 1987, the the 3.0-litre V6 ‘America’ engine produced 185bhp, and cars equipped with this engine (such as this example we have here, being a post-87 V6) also featured the US-style impact bumpers, in-boot fuel tank and US-spec engine, though European models were devoid of the additional structural rein...
