Introduced just in time to enjoy the last optimistic year of the post-WWI era before the Great Depression, Chevrolet replaced its tried-and-true overhead valve four-cylinder engine for its pickup fleet with a new overhead valve six with an additional 24 cubic inches of displacement and 11 more horsepower.

No longer was it enough to sell a truck that was reliable and had low speed hauling capability.
