Designed under the direction of Donald Frey with input from engineer Lew Schuler, the Bronco was engineered from a clean sheet as a purpose-built off-road vehicle rather than a truck-based adaptation, featuring a short 92-inch wheelbase, solid front and rear axles, and available four-wheel drive.
