In the mid-1950s, FIAT boss Gianni Agnelli and shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis were photographed during the summer season in the best known Italian and Côte d'Azur holiday resorts travelling in small customised FIATs.
They started the fashion for these cars, which typically were built without a roof, doors and side windows, and were fitted with waterproof wicker seats.
They were know as 'spiaggina' (beach cars) and many Italian coachbuilders, including Pinin Farina, Ghia, Moretti and Savio, built them in small numbers for their VIP clients.
Our vendor purchased this Beetle in Florida in 2022 and imported it into Europe.
He then commissioned the well-respected workshop AZNOM in Monza to turn it into a beach car, very much in the style of how Carrozzeria Ghia transformed FIAT 500 into the Jolly Beach Car.
