AI Listing Summary
This 1966 Land Rover Series IIA, part of the Pierre Strinati Collection, is believed to have been bought new by the renowned speleologist and used for his expeditions. While reportedly original and boasting a rare 'safari' roof, it requires recommissioning and does not include the speleological equipment.

The car's description indicates it is believed to be highly original and possibly retaining its original paint, which suggests some level of preservation. However, it also states that the car requires recommissioning prior to use, implying it has been stored for an extended period and needs mechanical work. The presence of wear and the need for recommissioning suggest it's not in excellent condition, but the originality hints at a condition above 'average'.

• Believed bought new by Pierre Strinati • Acquired for explorations and caving expeditions • Believed highly original • Requires recommissioning Some ten years after the original's introduction it was felt that the time had come to update the Land Rover's somewhat primitive slab-sided styling.
The result was the Series II, which featured more rounded sides.
Introduced in 1958, the Series II was available with either the 2,286cc petrol engine or the newly developed 2,052cc diesel first seen in 1956 on what became known retrospectively as the 'Series I'.
By this time the original permanent four-wheel drive freewheel transmission had been superseded by the more conventional selectable two- or four-wheel drive arrangement, with a set of low ratios available with the latter option selected.
The chief development on the Series IIA was a much improved diesel engine.
This Series IIA 'Landie' was first registered on 22nd June 1966, and it is believed that Mr Strinati bought it new to use ...
