It was the result of a close collaboration between designer Felice Mario Boano of Ghia, Carrozzeria Pininfarina and an engineering team led by Vittorio Jano, a former Alfa Romeo engineer and a leading figure in automotive engineering at the time.

With its pioneering monocoque design, it was the first production car to be equipped with a V6 engine.

The B20 of the third series and subsequent series, launched in 1953, were equipped with a 2,451 cc pushrod V6 engine developing 118 hp.

The chassis B20-3271 was completed on 23 September 1954 before being first registered on 23 November 1954 in the name of Lancia GB, in Alperton, England and delivered new on 1 December 1954 to A B Blanch & Co, in England.
