AI Listing Summary

This is a rare, Belgian-made 1910 Nagant-Hobson 14/16 HP "Roi des Belges" classic car. It features a 3,053cc four-cylinder engine, a unique "Roi des Belges" body, was restored in the 1990s, and even appeared in a film. Condition

The car underwent a restoration in the 1990s and further work after arriving in Belgium. The listing states it's in good working order, has been driven infrequently, and is visually appealing. While it's been in the current owner's collection for 30 years, the description doesn't indicate a recent or comprehensive restoration to bring it to a higher standard. The photos of restoration, though numerous are not included in the description. Therefore, a rating of 'Good' seems appropriate, acknowledging its age and restoration work.

• Rare Belgian-made car • 3,053cc four-cylinder sidevalve engine • Discovered in New Zealand • Restored in the 1990s • Featured in the film Villa des Roses (2002) • In present ownership for 30 years A somewhat obscure Belgian make, Nagant took its name from the founding Nagant brothers, Léon and Maurice, whose Liège-based company manufactured armaments, electrical equipment and machine tools.

They turned to motor manufacturing in 1899, building the French Gobron-Brillié under licence and selling them under the 'Gobron-Nagant' name.

A licence to build Rochet-Schneider cars was obtained at the end of 1904 before Nagant began making it own designs in 1907.

Designed by the German engineer, Ernst Valentin, they were powered by four-cylinder side-valve engines and had chain final drive.

24hp and 40hp models were offered.

In the UK they were marketed as 'Nagant-Hobson' and in France as 'Busson-Dedyn', Hobson being the distributor for the UK and British overseas territories since 1906.
