La 500 K qui bénéficiait d'une ingénieuse suspension arrière indépendante à essieu brisé fut une création de l'ingénieur Hans Nibel qui avait débuté chez Benz au début du XXe siècle et qui succéda à Marius Barbarou au poste d'ingénieur en chef en 1904, conçut (et pilota) les énormes Benz construites à l'époque qui culminèrent avec la Blitzen Benz (l'éclair Benz) de 200 ch.
