The 2.4-litre Mk1 offered here was owned in the 1980s by Graig Hinton's Classic Cars of Coventry, which at that time was campaigning Jaguars in classic saloon car racing.
When purchased circa 1980, 'SDW 740' was already in race trim.
At the start of the following season, the Mk1 and one of its stablemates – a Jaguar Mk7 - were track tested at Mallory Park by John Brigden for Collector's Car magazine (April 1981 edition, copy article available).
The running gear's specification was said to include 3.8-litre model coil springs, stiffer anti-roll bar, Koni dampers all round, Jaguar 420 front discs and a disc-braked Mk2 rear axle.
Isky D-type camshafts were used in the engine, which also featured a raised (10:1) compression ratio and breathed via twin 2" SU carburettors.
Maximum power was said to be in the region of 200bhp.
Other noteworthy features included an additional (Mini) radiator and an E-Type header tank for the cooling system.
