The car retains its original green paint, matching interior trim, and plates from the 1960 Monte Carlo Rally. It has been improved for modern classic rallies with a Series IIIA 1,592cc engine, full roll cage, and Britax full harness safety belts. The roof-mounted Lucas spot-lamp is authentic, and the registration number's position is correct. A rare cable-driven Halda Speed Pilot is fitted. Restored in the 1990s and mechanically restored over the last nine months, it is back on the road.

The Sunbeam Rapier offered here is one of five Series IIIs - registered 'YWK 1' to 'YWK 5' respectively - commissioned for use by the works team.

Although they invariably ran in 'standard' FIA Group 1 configuration, the works team cars were not only stronger but handled better and produced significantly more power than the showroom variety.

Overdrive was always fitted and, depending on the regulations for a particular event, was sometimes arranged to operate on all forward gears.

Along with its four sister cars, 'YWK 1' was built at Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry late in 1959 in preparation for the 1960 Monte Carlo Rally where it was driven by Peter Jopp and Les Leston but had to retire with a broken half-shaft.

With the same crew the Rapier then tackled the Greek Acropolis Rally but again had to retire.

'YWK 1' was then sold by the works team and bought by Oakham-based Rootes dealer Julian Easten.
