Any student of pre-war American motoring is aware of the thousands of makes that existed prior to the consolidation of the auto industry.

This consolidation accelerated rapidly during and after the depression.

Many of the smaller makes were what are referred to today as assembled car companies.

These manufacturers would produce cars to their own design by using commercially available engines, drive trains and then sourcing coachbuilders to fabricate their bodywork.

This allowed ambitious smaller builders to enter the industry without the tremendous capitol necessary to tool up producing engines, frames, axles and bodies.

The assembled car companies were often regional builders or makers that focused on a particular niche market.

Most of these builders made unsophisticated basic machinery that was rarely good looking or noteworthy.
